The Shreveport Youth Boxing Club has twelve young amateur boxers competing in the upcoming 2017 Regional 6 Silver Gloves Championships in North Little Rock, Arkansas (January 12th through January 14th).

Shreveport-Bossier City Area Boxers Participating In The East Texas Golden Gloves

Coach Donny Jackson of the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club emailed this list of his club’s boxers who will be traveling to the Longview Exhibit Center in Longview, Texas to participate in the East Texas Golden Gloves:

          Sanctioned 2018 Amateur Boxing Events Coming to Our Area

          The 78th East Texas Golden Gloves Tournament begins on February 1st through February 3rd at the Longview Exhibit Center (1123 Jaycee Drive, Longview, Texas). Please see flyer for bell times and general admission prices.

          The Inaugural George Dement Classic will held on Saturday, February 24th, and starts at 2:00 P. M. The Dement Brothers Old School Boxing Club is the host of this amateur boxing event.

          The Stephens Youth Activity Zone, located at the Bilberry Park and Recreation Center in Shreveport, will be host of at least FOUR major, or very important, amateur boxing tournaments:

          1. The Southern Association Classic Junior-Senior Olympics, April 20th through April 22nd.
          2. The Inaugural Louisiana Governor’s Classic, May 4th through May 6th.
          3. USA Amateur Boxing Junior Olympics, July 14th.
          1. Louisiana Versus Texas, September 8th.
          1. My Time To Shine Amateur Boxing Show, November 10th.

          FOUR LOCAL AMATEUR BOXERS RECEIVE BYES TO THE 2017 Junior Olympic, Youth Open and Prep National Championships (June 26 – July 01, 2017)

          Bobby Leonard, Joseph Dodson, Marquiz Hampton, and Toby Brook will be representing the Shreveport-Bossier City area during the 2017 Junior Olympic, Youth Open and Prep Nationals (July 26th through July 1st) at The Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia. All four amateur boxers are members of the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club and the Dement Brothers Old School Boxing Club.

          But, expect more local athletes wanting to join these four! The Dement Brothers Old School Boxing Club of Bossier City (under Coach Jake Dement) and Stephens Youth Activity Zone (under Coach Jerry Stephens) and the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club fully intend to send more to represent during the upcoming Regional Junior Olympic Box Offs being held this Saturday (May 27th) at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club (2821 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71109).           Regional Junior Olympics Box Offs

          The Stephens Youth Activity Zone, Shreveport-Bossier Sports Commission, Shreveport Parks and Recreation (SPAR), Shreveport-Bossier The Other Side, and many others are sponsoring the Regional Junior Olympics Box Offs coming up on Saturday, May 27th. 

          Although this very important amateur boxing event is only scheduled for one day, it means a fantastic opportunity for the young athletes (ages eight to seventeen years old) to represent their home towns and states both regionally and nationally.

          Location of the event is still undetermined but please continue to watch this blogpost for updates.

          Amateur Boxing Returns to the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Shreveport

          The last time I spoke to Coach Donny Jackson of the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club, who will be hosting the amateur boxing event, he informed this blog writer that he is expecting boxing clubs from not only from the State of Louisiana to participate at the Second Annual Shreveport Youth Boxing Invitational, but also teams from East Texas and Mississippi!

          Many of the featured athletes who will be participating recently competed at their respective silver and golden gloves elimination tournaments, and want to sharpen their skills further to win in their age and weight division.

          Besides the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club, the Shreveport-Bossier City area has three other boxing clubs representing and preparing their athletes for the upcoming 2017 Louisiana State Golden Gloves in Lafayette, Louisiana:

          February 18th:

          • Shreveport Youth Boxing Club will be hosting their amateur boxing event, which will feature young athletes that recently competed at the 2017 Louisiana State Silver Gloves, Regional 6 Silver Gloves and National Silver Gloves Tournaments.

          April 21st through April 23rd:

          • The 2017 Southern Association Classic Junior-Senior Olympics Tournament will be held at the Southern University at Shreveport Campus for amateur boxers between the ages of eight to seventeen years of age, and the winners of this tournament will qualify to compete in the Regional Box-Offs. Expect competitors from the States of Louisiana, Mississippi, parts of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle vying to earn the opportunity to go to the National Junior Olympics.

          Local Amateur Boxing Club Returns to Shreveport-Bossier City Area with Five Regional Silver Gloves Champions

          Five members of the Shreveport Youth Boxing Club returned to the Shreveport-Bossier City area as Regional 6 Silver Gloves champions and two came up slightly short! Winners will represent the Shreveport-Bossier City and the State of Louisiana at the National Silver Gloves Championships…..

          Dav’xaison Kennedy (age 9) won the 70 Pound Weight Class Division in his age bracket (age 10).

          Damone Williams (age 9) won the 100 Pound Weight Class Division in his age bracket (age 11).

          Upcoming Shreveport-Bossier City Area Amateur Boxing Events and Tournaments

          Saturday (December 17th) at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls of Shreveport, the Stephens Boxing Academy will be hosting the “My Time To Shine II”,  and many boxing clubs from East Texas and South Louisiana are planning to participate.

          The D-Rock’s Boxing Gym (Marshall, Texas) will be the host for the 77th Annual East Texas Golden Gloves (February 2nd, 3rd, and 4th) at the Longview Exhibit Center {please click on this link for additional information about the East Texas Golden Gloves East Texas GG info}.

          The 2017 Southern Association of USA Boxing {Louisiana, Mississippi, parts of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle} Classic Junior-Senior Tournament will be once again coming to the Shreveport-Bossier City area (April 21st, 22nd and 23rd) at the Southern University in Shreveport Campus. The Stephens Boxing Academy is the host of the event, and also the upcoming Regional Junior Olympics Box-Offs (May 27th). This annual major amateur boxing tournament is opened for ages of eight to sixteen years old held each year within the Southern Association and many Olympic champions have begun at this competition.
